Learning Update April 28 2023

This week students were working on...

ELAL 

Writing sentences using sequencing words to describe how to prepare chocolate milk, how to make a sandwich, and how to prepare a drink

We read different stories to do the five-finger retelling using the sequencing words such as Owl Babies, What You Wish For, Dreams in a Jar, and Emergency.

Here is an example a writing sample:


Spanish:
Students finished their booklet about spring, and as a group, we came up with a writing rubric to guide their work.

Math: 
Students measured different objects around the room to find the length and the width using paper clips, popsicle sticks, cubes, and markers. They also measure different body parts using blocks.

Learning Update April 21 2023

 ELAL

Students have been writing a sequence using transition words. See example:


Math: students began to measure objects in the classroom to find the length, width, and depth.


Spanish: students were working on writing a mini book about spring.They wrote sentences with words with ka-ke-ki-ko-ku

Learning Update April 14 2023

 Math: 

Students practiced addition and subtraction facts to 20, reviewing symmetry and counting by 10 (decena) 

Spanish:

Students are working on completing a mini book with the vocabulary of spring: weather, clothing, animals, activities, places, flowers

ELAL:

Students practiced sequencing by retelling a story or giving instructions.










 

Dalhousie Announcements April 14 2023

 Yearbook: Deadline to purchase a yearbook is Friday, April 28. The cost is $21. If you want to purchase additional books per student, please contact the office Dalhousie@cbe.ab.ca  It is an optional purchase and can be paid for through your MyCBE account.

 

With the change in weather conditions, please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed for the weather and any changes in weather.  Additionally, please send an extra change of clothes with your child to school to be kept in their backpack.  This should include a top, a bottom, change of socks and underwear.  Recess and lunch is a great opportunity for fun and play in the snow and slush, resulting in wet clothing. The office has a very limited supply of clothes.  Thank you for helping us keeping your child happy and dry.

 

We are so excited to have parent volunteers back in the classrooms! Please ensure your police clearance has been correctly uploaded prior to signing up for one of the many volunteer opportunities. If you are unsure of your status please reach out to our lovely office team who will be more than happy to assist you with this process.

Friday, April 21st -Earth Day – students to dress in Earth tones and classes will participate in earth friendly activities.

***FAMILY FIESTA***

Learning Update April 6 2023

Spanish:

Students are describing what happens during spring using the following vocabulary: the weather, animals, clothing, activities, etc.

Math:

Students are exploring and looking for lines of symmetry using 2D shapes.

English:

Students are using the five finger retelling (Characters, setting, beginning, middle and end) to demonstrates understanding of a story. 

They are using the sequencing words: first, then, next, after that, finally to write about a sequence. for example:

How to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich:

First, I grab the peanut butter and jelly

Then, I I grab two pieces of bread

Next, I spread the peanut butter on one slice and jelly on the other one

After that, I put the two slices together 

Finally, I eat and enjoy the sandwich


Dalhousie Announcement April 6 2023

A reminder that there is no school tomorrow, Friday, April 7 and Monday, April 10. We look forward to seeing everyone again on Tuesday, April 11.

Our next parent Society meeting is on April 12 via Teams. Everyone is welcome. We hope to see you there!  Link and password will be sent out to parents on Wednesday morning. 

Our movement unit will start on April 11. Please see the separate email sent out regarding appropriate clothing and safety precautions.
